North East Paediatric Anaesthetic Network
NEPAN is a clinical network of anaesthetists and intensivists with an interest in paediatric anaesthesia. All acute Trusts in the Northern Region are represented. It is chaired by Dr Lisa Daniels, Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist at the Great North Children's Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne. What do we do? Our aims include:- To promote collaboration between anaesthetists in specialist and non-specialist hospitals
- To support the acquisition of knowledge for anaesthetists at all stages of their careers
- To promote the highest standards of perioperative care throughout the region
Oxford Region Paediatric Anaesthesia Group
Bi-annual meeting of Clinical Leads for discussion of; guideline development and sharing, regional audit, discussion of current clinical topics and training issues, peer review. Annual meeting for all interested anaesthetists in the region; includes lectures, debates, discussion of current topics, trainee prize presentations. Our aims are:- To provide close links between paediatric anaesthetists in the region
- To provide a forum for discussion and the development of clinical guidelines
- To promote the highest standardsof peri-operative care for children in the region
- To promote trainees interest in paediatric anaesthesia by encouraging them to present and complete audits for the annual meeting
Thames PAG (Paediatric Anaesthetic Group)
The Thames PAG is a clinical network of specialist and non-specialist consultant anaesthetists who have a responsibility for providing comprehensive anaesthesia services for children in the Thames region.
- To provide a forum for discussion and the development of clinical guidelines
- To provide a source of information for use in clinical practice, teaching and training
- To promote the highest standards of peri-operative care for children
Meetings: Biannual at Great Ormond Street, for discussion of current topics, dissemination of national guidelines and to formulate regional suggested guidance.

SEPAP (South East Paediatric Anaesthetic Partnership)
A newly established network centred around Brighton and hospitals in the South East which has been led by Duncan MacDonald and Kate Solan.

SWACA (South West Association of Children's Anaesthetists)
This network was established in 1993 and has several objectives:
- To maintain firm bonds between clinicians in this large network and with the tertiary centre
- Through cohesion and co-operation, peer review each others practice to support raising standards at each centre.
- To audit practice and discuss delivery of quality care within the region.
- To promote paediatric anaesthesia as a specialty to trainees by encouraging them to present and complete audits for the meeting.
Meetings: Annual meeting with attendance from all peninsula DGHs and regional centre to discuss current topics, hold debates, trainee prize presentation and organize regional audits. The meeting usually occurs in October of each year.

NWPAG (North West Paediatric Anaesthesia Group)
The group was established in 2008 with the inaugural meeting being held on the 11th January 2008. Membership comprises 33 consultant paediatric anaesthesia leads from all North West hospitals.- The remit of the group is to share good practice, develop local guidelines, conduct relevant audits and provide training and education for consultants.
- Improve the quality and safety of paediatricanaesthesia in the region.
PAN-WM (Paediatric Anaesthetic Network - West Midlands)
The group is now known as the “Paediatric Anaesthesia Network, West Midlands” (PAN WM) and incorporates members from all the acute hospitals in the West Midlands Region but additionally representatives from Alder Hey and Crewe, reflecting the group’s origins within the “Partners in Paediatrics” organisation.- Revision of the Anaesthetic Standards section of the “Standards for the Care of Critically Ill and Injured Children in the West Midlands” peer review process following feedback from the most recent round of peer review visits in the region.
- The development, in tandem with Birmingham City University, of “PaediatricAnaesthesia and Recovery Training” modules aimed at improving the competencies and skills of recovery and anaesthesia support staff. These modules will attract academic points equivalent to 50% of a degree and include practical and theoretical aspects.
- An annual one day meeting for regional consultant and trainee anaesthetists with an interest in paediatric practice. The programmes for these events includes contributions from local and national speakers, the topics being selected based on feedback from previous meetings.
- Development of Recommendations for Acute Pain Management in Children. Members of the Network have developed a generic document which can be used by individual trusts. These guidelines provide direction to medical and nursing staff on the safe and effective relief of acute pain and postoperative nausea and vomiting.
WACA (Wessex Association of Children's Anaesthetists)
Aims: WACA consists of a long-established (1998) annual forum for all regional trainees and permanent staff to meet and discuss essentially clinical issues relating to paediatricanaesthesia at an afternoon scientific meeting. There is a newer (2007) Business Forum comprising a core group of senior anaesthetists (Lead PaediatricAnaesthetists, Lead Clinicians and interested consultant / SAS anaesthetists) sharing the common objective to develop, promote and audit standards of care with respect to children receiving anaesthesia in the region. We have a Basecamp site where we share minutes of meetings, protocols, guidance and advertise relevant and interesting meetings. We cover Portsmouth, Southampton (teaching centre), Salisbury, Chichester, Basingstoke, Isle of Wight, Dorchester, Poole, Bournemouth, Frimley Park and Winchester. Wales Regional Network
PAGW (Paediatric Anaesthetic Group of Wales)
The Paediatric Anaesthetists Group of Wales (PAGW) was formed in 2002 under the Presidency of Dr Peter Lloyd Jones. It held its inaugural scientific meeting that year at Gregynog Hall, Newtown, Powys The Group is affiliated to the Society of Anaesthetists in Wales and recognised as a regional body by Association of Paediatric Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland (APAGBI).
Aims:
- To promote the highest standard of anaesthetic care to all children in Wales
- To promote interest in and knowledge of paediatric anaesthesia
- To organise meetings to achieve this purpose
To encourage and coordinate research in the subject
- To coordinate communication with all those who seek advice on matters of professional relevance
