This new Best Practice Guidance for Preoperative Care Services for Children and Young People aims to ensure that every child or young person receives preoperative care that meets their medical, physical, and emotional needs—whilst providing organisations with frameworks and support to deliver this care consistently and effectively.

Creating an inclusive healthcare culture is an important part of improving the healthcare
experiences for children and young people, ensuring that they have equal access to care and
that the teams and facilities available are specifically designed to meet their needs to achieve
this. Children, young people and carers should be actively involved in the design of care
pathways and any facilities.
