Quality improvement working group

QI Team at APAGBI
The APAGBI Quality Improvement team plays a critical role in advancing patient safety and fostering a culture of excellence in paediatric anaesthesia. As part of the Scientific Committee, the QI team provides leadership, guidance and resources for members to undertake impactful projects.

Why does QI matter?
Quality Improvement is a systematic, data-driven process used by healthcare professionals to enhance patient care by making it safer, more effective, efficient and equitable. It fosters better communication and teamwork across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders, while also delivering cost benefits by reducing inefficiencies and errors.

QI in Paediatric Anaesthesia
Anaesthetists are central to ensuring patient safety and enhancing patient experiences. Paediatric anaesthesia presents unique challenges due to children’s physiological and emotional differences, offering significant opportunities for QI initiatives. The Royal College of Anaesthetists’ Quality Improvement Compendium provides valuable resources and examples for QI projects tailored to paediatric anaesthesia. Access the compendium here.
