Election to Council

There are seven elected directors on the Council of the APA. Five of these are Home members employed in Great Britain and Ireland, one is an Overseas member and one a Trainee member. The term of office for Home and Overseas members is four years and for the Trainee member, two years.

Election to the post of elected director takes place under the auspices of the Electoral Reform Service and would normally take place approximately six months before the elected director is to retire from Council. 2024 APAGBI Election Guidance

Notice of forthcoming election to APAGBI Council: 
2 Home Members 

Nominations are sought for two vacancies on APAGBI Council with effect from September 2024. 

The election will be held during July and August 2024 and will be conducted by the Civica Electoral Service. Home Members are appointed for four years.    

The successful candidates will be expected to attend the three face-to-face full meetings of Council each year (two in London; one at the Annual Scientific Meeting) and at occasional ad hoc meetings (face-to-face or virtually) as required.  The first meeting of the elected term will be Tuesday 17th September 2024 – please save the date to ensure availability if elected. 

During their term, Elected Officers are expected to assume responsibility for APAGBI projects and activities, which may include one or more of the following positions: 

  • Meetings secretary 
  • Webmaster 
  • Lead for information for patients and families 
  • Lead for guidelines 
  • Link-Network lead 
  • Lead for Audits and Surveys 
  • Perioperative care 
  • Non-specialist advisor (If appropriate base hospital) 
  • Involvement in Education and Training or Science committees. 

The APAGBI will reimburse expenses according to its agreed policies. Members wishing to stand can nominate themselves by completing the nomination form.  

Candidates will need to provide a short supporting statement (no more than 300 words), which will be circulated with the ballot papers. The nomination and supporting statement forms are available on the APAGBI website: http://www.apagbi.org.uk/about-us/council/election-council 

Completed forms should be submitted by e-mail to the APAGBI Secretariat to arrive no later than 5pm on Monday 8th July 2024.
